Listing rules

Last updated 6 November 2026.

Allowed

Products from the non-controlled parts of industrial hemp, the seed and the fibre (mature stalk), and materials made from them: straw, stem, shiv, fibre, dust, approved seed for sowing, and finished hemp-based products.

Not allowed

  • Leaves, flowers, buds or any other controlled part of the cannabis plant.
  • CBD, cannabinoid, terpene or extract products of any kind.
  • Seed of varieties that are not approved low-THC industrial hemp varieties.
  • Anything you do not have the right to sell, or are not genuinely seeking to buy.

Listings that mention prohibited material are held for review and may be removed. Repeated breaches lead to account closure.

Growers and licensing

Growing industrial hemp in the UK needs a Home Office licence covering cultivation and possession, for approved varieties within the legal THC limit. If you list straw or stem from your own crop, you must hold a valid licence. Upload it from your organisation page to be verified.

Accurate listings

  • Describe quantity, specification and condition honestly. Attach test results or certificates where you have them.
  • Close listings that are no longer available.
  • Prices are indicative and ex VAT unless you say otherwise.

Finished materials and retrofit projects

Listing a product on Hemp-ex is not evidence that it meets any standard or scheme requirement. Certificates are provided by the lister. Anyone specifying materials for a PAS 2035 retrofit project, including grant-funded schemes, remains responsible for confirming product certification (for example a BBA certificate or a valid Declaration of Performance) against the project’s requirements.

Competition law

Do not use Hemp-ex, its messaging or its market data to agree prices, share out customers or areas, or limit supply with competitors. Messages should concern a genuine trade between a buyer and a seller.

Waste

If material is waste rather than a product (for example some off-specification residues), waste rules such as the duty of care and carrier registration may apply to moving it. List it accurately and check before you trade.
