How Hemp-ex works

Hemp-ex is a free marketplace for the UK industrial hemp chain: growers, primary processors, manufacturers, contractors, specifiers and merchants. It exists because UK hemp has no trusted price, growers struggle to find buyers before they drill, and buyers struggle to find graded, documented material.

What you can list

  • Raw biomass: retted baled straw, whole stem, and seed of approved low-THC varieties for sowing.
  • Processed fractions: shiv/hurd by particle size, bast fibre, dust and fines.
  • Finished materials: hempcrete blocks and binders, insulation, netting and geotextiles, biochar, panels and boards.

Each listing is an Offer (I have this) or Wanted (I need this), and either spot (now) or forward (a future harvest). Forward Wanted listings let processors and manufacturers show growers the demand before spring drilling.

Trust and neutrality

  • Growers can upload their Home Office industrial hemp licence. Once a Hemp-ex admin has checked it, their listings carry a Verified grower badge.
  • Contact details stay private until both sides of an enquiry agree to share them.
  • Unyte Hemp incubates Hemp-ex. When Unyte Hemp lists, it does so under its own name and the same rules as every other member, and it does not see or use other members’ enquiries or reported prices for its own trading.
  • Price information is only published as ranges combining at least five listings from at least three organisations, so no member’s individual price is exposed.

Deals

Members agree terms directly. Hemp-ex is not a party to any deal and does not handle payment, delivery or quality. After an enquiry, we’ll ask whether a deal happened; answering is optional and anonymous, and builds the UK hemp price index.

Who runs it

Hemp-ex is an initiative of Unyte Hemp, part of Unyte Group, run as an industry consortium in the making. If you’d like to be involved as a founding member, get in touch through your dashboard or with the Unyte team.
